T.R. Reid's brilliant analysis of the American health care system in relation to the practices of the rest of the world gives us a clear context in which to view our current private-insurance health care system. Reid has studied these issues for years and has been tutored by the very people who are asked by emerging societies to help them develop a system. T.R. Reid offers an objective analysis, not favoring one over the other unless there are clearly demonstrable advantages. He feels that some of the objections about waiting times in Canada are correct, if no worse than similar situations in the United States. In some areas, such as Japan, he feels doctors are underpaid, which is something that must be considered by Americans in evaluating health care reform. His overview of all systems without prejudice or point of view, favoring one over the other, is a wonderful exercise that brings out the facts and the opinions of those whose job is merely to set up the best possible health care delivery system for a society. Very important book.

Forty Republicans, Five Democrats and Health Care Reform

We now have a health care plan that passed in the Senate and one that passed in the House of Representatives. Holding up true reform were all the Republican Senators, who clearly showed who their constituents are…the lobbyists. They make no bones about it. They voted against any thing to do with health care reform. [...]
